Funerals can be low cost, minimal fuss affairs or extravagant celebrations of life. In the most recent edition of the SunLife Cost of Dying Report, it was estimated that the average cost of a basic funeral rose 4.7% to £4,141. In the same report, it was found that 1 in 5 funerals are now direct cremations, with attended cremations falling by 4% year-on-year. This is a significant increase in direct cremations from 2019 where only 3% of cremations took place without attendance.
