Funeral Costs: The Price of Dying – Our Response

We are aware of the recently aired episode of ITV’s Tonight, titled Funeral Costs: The Price of Dying, which referenced unregulated funeral activities for at-need arrangements and the collapse of One Life, a pre-regulation funeral plan provider.

As a provider of pre-need funeral plans, Plan With Grace’s activities are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and any money deposited by our plan holders into the Plan With Grace Funeral Plan Trust is protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Since receiving approval from the FCA following industry regulation in July 2022, thousands of consumers have bought funeral plans through Plan With Grace, with 93% of our customers rating us 5 stars on Trustpilot.

In the highly unlikely event that Plan With Grace ceased trading, our customers’ plans would be transferred to another provider, in the first instance, or will be entitled to a full refund under the FSCS for any money deposited in a plan up to a value of £85,000.

We are acutely aware of the financial pressures that many families face when making funeral arrangements, and we remain fully committed to providing affordable funeral plans that are independently verified with weekly price checks, including our market-leading all-inclusive direct cremation product.

The Plan With Grace board of directors are actively lobbying the government, regulatory bodies and industry bodies to introduce regulation to at-need funeral activities, a long overdue move which would see the same high standards of the regulated funeral space applied to all after-life arrangements, regardless of whether a funeral plan is in place.
