Why does a plan cost more than arranging now?
£1,140 covers a direct cremation with collection from a hospital or mortuary. If someone dies at home, urgent collection adds £300, and returning the ashes adds £100, which takes it to £1,540. A plan includes both, along with 24/7 collection, an oversized coffin if needed and removal of medical devices, all at today’s price.

Frequently Asked Questions About Funeral Costs
Answers to the questions people ask most about what a funeral costs.
According to the SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2026, the average simple attended funeral in the UK costs £3,828, and the average traditional attended funeral costs £4,510. Send-off costs, such as flowers, the venue, catering and memorials, add an average of £1,312 on top.
The UK average for a direct cremation is £1,628 (SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2026). A direct cremation with us costs £1,140 if you’re arranging one now, or £1,595 as a prepaid plan.
A direct cremation involves arranging the collection of your loved one, bringing them into our care, transportation to a crematorium and an unattended cremation. Depending on the package selected, arrangements can then be made for the ashes to be returned to the family or handled in accordance with the service terms.
With no funeral service, it costs less than an attended funeral. The UK average is £1,628, against £3,828 for a simple attended funeral.
Our Basic package is an unattended direct cremation, including collection from a hospital or mortuary. If someone dies at home, urgent collection adds £300, and returning the ashes adds £100. If you’d like a service, our attended cremations start from £1,395.
If you’re on certain benefits, you may be able to get a Funeral Expenses Payment from the government to help pay for a funeral you’re arranging. Check if you’re eligible on GOV.UK.
It depends on your circumstances. A plan fixes the price of what’s included at today’s cost, and means your family won’t have to arrange or pay for those things later. It won’t suit everyone, for example if you’d rather keep the money accessible. Compare what’s included and the cancellation terms before you decide.
